Tips for Leaders
1. First make sure the Explorers/Network members register with us and pay the money before starting on any activities. See "How do I register" on the left.
2. Have a system of recording what your Explorers/Network members are doing and when they do it, and who and when they registered.
3. Let your Explorers/Network members decide what they are going to do in the skills, physical and volunteering sections. See here.
4. Ask someone to be the assessor for what they choose.
5. Check the 20 conditions for Expeditions here and then decide on dates for the practice and qualifying expeditions.(between 1st April and 31st Oct.)
6. Plan dates for the expedition training before the practice expedition. Check the requirements for the Expedition here. Also decide on the Expedition Aim. Ideas can be found here.
7. Have a DofE meeting say once a month to check on progress, do training, planning etc..
8. Don't forget that they can do the Queens Scout Award/Chief Scouts Awards at the same time, so check the extra bits on the ICV list.(see above)

Please make sure we have the participants email or their parents email, and encourage your Explorers to go online to update their dofe.
Participants can only achieve their award online. For more info. please click here.
Expedition Assessors
Anyone wanting to assess dofe expeditions has to have completed the EAAS. For this and other courses check here These courses are run either by the DofE, or through Scouting. For more info. for Expedition Assessors please see here. For more information about doing Assessor Reports please click here.
All Assessors have to be reaccredited every 5 years, which will be done online in edofe.
You can assess your own Unit at bronze and silver as long as you have not been involved with the training.
"Green Forms"
If you are doing a gold expedition, it must be in one of the Expedition Areas. You need to send off a Green Form to the appropriate expedition area. Please check here for this.
You should send it at least 4 weeks before the expedition, or 6 weeks if you want them to provide an assessor. Click here to see the Expedition Areas and to download a green form. Please note that there are no Red Forms now.
All expeditions need to be approved by us so, please send a copy to the County Advisers. If you need help completing the green form please ask us. The Expedition Area Network has to approve your expedition and issue you with a Notification Reference Number. You can not do the expedition without this.
Volunteering
If anyone is doing the volunteering in a Scout Group as a Young Leader they have to doModuleA, plus 2 hours extra training per level. If they are over 18 then they have to do the Getting Started Modules plus extra training per level. Please make sure that this training is recorded in edofe.
If you want to join the service crew at Boarfold Campsite, which would count towards dofe volunteering, please contact us at 0776 567 6032 or email bernard.oflaherty@gmescouts.org.uk
